Hornsby TAFE Design & Photography – Generative Artificial Intelligence Use Policy
What is Generative Artificial Intelligence?
Software that generates text, computer code, audio, images and videos in response to text input.
We believe students should be equipped to use Generative Artificial Intelligence (Generative AI) responsibly in their future careers and teachers have created opportunities in the design & photography assessments at Hornsby TAFE where they will have the opportunity to use Generative AI proactively.
However, students are expected to apply critical thinking and to produce original design and written work for their assessments, therefor the use of Generative AI in any written work or design work is permitted only when stated in the assessment instructions.
If the use of Generative A has not been stated in the assessment instructions, you are not permitted to use it during the design process, or to produce written work for that assessment.
Assessments where the use of Generative AI is permitted or required, will explicitly state the extent and the appropriate use in the assessment instructions.
If it states in the assessment instructions that you are permitted to use Generative AI, you must disclose in your written and design work that you have used Generative AI by including the following disclaimer: * Generative AI has been used in the production of this work.
Inappropriate use of Generative AI is a breach of academic integrity, such as:
- Using Generative AI to produce written or design work for an assessment where it explicitly states that it is not permitted in the assessment instructions.
- Not acknowledging the use of content created by Generative AI in your written or design work, where the appropriate use of such tools is stated in the assessment instructions.
Where it is suspected that a learner has not submitted their own work, used Generative AI in an assessment that states that they cannot, or used Generative AI and not included the disclaimer, they may be invited to discuss understanding of the submitted content, the process of arriving at the solution and show any evidence such as drafts and research.
